There is various name regarding about Everest. In Nepali, we called “Sagarmatha”. Literally, “Sagar” means “Sky” and “Matha” means “Forehead” in Nepali translation.
While its Tibetan name is “Chomolungma” which means “Holy Mother”. This is the Chinese name which was given in 1721 Kangxi Atlas. “Third Pole” was the previous name of Everest before getting its name. Land Surveyor General from Britain “Sir George Everest” gives the mountain name Everest. “Sir George Everest” from Britain was the first person to measure the accurate position of Everest.
Since 1960 Sagarmatha is the Nepali name of Everest.
